Learning from the Red house | Private & Public Program Planning · Final project · 5th Year

"The Red House", is an original well house from the time of the Ottoman Empire. The house was built above the remainings of a historic route that was used as a main connection point between Jaffa and it's surroundings. Over the years, the house has expanded and changed, but has always functioned as an open system that constitutes a sustainable infrastructure for changing functions and users.

Today, the house is defined as a preserved historic building and functions as an art center. It is located in the heart of 'Shapira' neighborhood in the south of Tel Aviv. 'Shapira' was established as an immigrant neighborhood and has preserved its heterogeneous character to this day, It is a multicultural center for diverse communities. The house, is a remaining of an architecture that connects the fragments of the city.

By studying the main planning principles of the house and its space, My project is making an attempt to turn the city margins into a vivid public space with a broad wall in which communities can exist. The project "Learning from the Red House" deals with the edge of the neighborhood, and its potential for expansion and inclusion of a new city.
